Now available: Social Policy & Practice

GSU users now have access to the Social Policy & Practice database via SilverPlatter.

Description:

Social Policy & Practice is a bibliographic database with abstracts containing material from the following information providers: Centre for Policy on Ageing, Greater London Authority, IDOX, and the Social Care Institute for Excellence. Much of the material on the database is held at the British Library which is the designated document supplier for the database.

The database covers public and social policy, public health, social care, community development, mental & community health, homelessness, housing, crime, law & order, families, children and older people. Content is from the UK with some material from the USA and Europe. A significant number of the references are to grey literature and UK government publications. Over half of the database contains references to books and pamphlets. Material is from 1890 to date with the majority of references from the 1980s onwards. Currently there are over 200,000 records.

The database is oriented towards applied research and policy and practice and as such complements theoretical databases.

This database is being funded by the Urban Health Area of Focus.  It can now be accessed via the Library’s list of Electronic Resources & Databases.
