"Dis-play" Exhibit Explores Books as Sculpture

The new exhibit, Dis-play: an Archive Drawn from Reading, opened Dec. 1 on the first floor of Library North. The exhibit runs through Dec.

“Books have long been admired and collected for their intrinsic qualities,” notes exhibit creator and Acquisitions Library Associate John M. Simmons. “More recently books have been treated as sculptural objects. This exhibit presents books of a unique or curious nature in a mosaic-like fashion.”

To show the books to their best advantage-and in the spirit of playful attention-the exhibit will be altered daily. All featured books are from the Georgia State University Library’s general collection and have been drawn on by Simmons while working on various projects during his 23-year career at Georgia State.
