Research Fellow Luis Arroyo, Ph.D., Will Present Labor Unions and Communism on Oct. 3

Dr. Luis Arroyo, professor and chair of the Chicano and Latino Studies Department at California State University at Long Beach, Calif., will present (Dis)Assembling Anti-Communism in a Los Angeles CIO Local: Furniture Workers Local 576, 1941–1955, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Fri., Oct. 3, in Library South 8. The event is free and open to the university community.

Arroyo is a 2003 recipient of the Merl E. Reed Fellowship in Southern Labor History, established in 2000 in honor of Dr. Merl E. Reed, Georgia State University Professor Emeritus. In 1971, Reed founded the library’s Southern Labor Archives, the largest accumulation of labor records in the Southeast. The fellowship is awarded annually by the Special Collections Department to scholars whose research in the archives is expected to lead to a book, article, dissertation or other substantive product in the field of study.
