Comfortable in the Gray Areas
GSU Ceramics/Sculpture professor Christina West discusses her work’s ambiguity in the latest issue of the digital humanities magazine Harlot: A Revealing Look at the Arts of Persuasion.
West resists easy classifications of her work or attempts to reduce her work to one “correct” interpretation:
“For me, this ambiguity mimics reality, with its layers of uncertainty and mystery shrouding the psychology, or interiority, of those we encounter; as many clues as the body may give through its language, we never can know with certainty the inner workings of those around us.“
West’s work is currently on view as part of the “Corporeal Manifestations” show at the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia through August 2.
