Billboard and Variety Magazines Country Music Index

Billboard MagazineFor over a century, Billboard and Variety Magazines have covered the entertainment industry, and both of these publications have been valuable resources for music researchers.  Georgia State University’s Special Collections and Archives is pleased to announce that the Popular Music and Culture Collection now includes an online Billboard and Variety Magazines Country Music Index. The index covers country music artists and related topics from 1925 to 1955. It can be searched by name, keyword, or date; searches can be narrowed by publication; or it can be browsed alphabetically.   Issues of Billboard and Variety can be found on microfilm in the Georgia State University Library, and some issues of Billboard (1942- ) are available on Google Books.

The original card index was created by Dr. Wayne W. Daniel, and the online version by the Special Collections and Archives Department.  Questions about the index should be directed to Kevin Fleming, archivist, Popular Music and Culture Collection, at 404-413-2880 or archives@gsu.edu.
