Africa during the Cold War

Are you interested in the history of Africa during the Cold War?  Larry Grubbs, a lecturer in GSU’s History Department, has just published a book on this topic entitled Secular missionaries : Americans and Africansecular development in the 1960s.  In this book, Grubbs describes American attempts to modernize Africa during its first decade of independence, placing these events within the context of the Cold War.  Grubbs specializes in American culture and international history.

This book is the latest in the series Culture, Politics, and the Cold War published by the University of Massachusetts Press.  This series examines the Cold War as a distinct historical epoch, and places special emphasis on the interactions between culture and politics.  Many other titles in this series are available in our library.
