Pullen Celebrates Atlanta's Early Country Music Scene

In conjunction with Georgia Music Week (Sept. 13–19), Pullen Library will host a special exhibit and program this month exploring Atlanta’s early country music scene.

The exhibit, From Moonshine Kate to the Sunshine Boys: WSB and Atlanta Country Music, 1922–1950, will be on display through September on Library North 1. The exhibit features sound recordings and sheet music from the library’s music archives, and was created by Pullen archivists Laura Botts and Mary McMahon. A supplemental online exhibit is at http://www.library.gsu.edu/spcoll/exhibits/wsbexhibit.htm.

A related Georgia Music Week program will be held from 10–11 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 16, on Library South 8. The program will feature Ed Wallace, an early member of the Sunshine Boys, and Dr. Wayne W. Daniel, retired Georgia State professor and the author of Pickin’ on Peachtree, a historical account of country music in Atlanta. All are invited to attend.
