Recent Research by Sociology Professor Wright

Meet Professor Eric Wright, who joined the GSU Sociology Department and the School of Public Health faculty this past academic year.  Dr. Wright is also a Second Century Initiative (2CI)Faculty in the Atlanta Census Research Data – Health Policy and Risky Behaviors Cluster.

According to his departmental profile, “his research interests center on public policy and social responses to health and illness, particularly mental health and illness, substance use, sexual health, and sexually transmitted diseases,” and he is currently “involved in several projects exploring the social determinants and responses to prescription drug abuse and efforts to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and improve the mental and sexual health of adults with serious mental illness.”  He is quite a prolific researcher, having been “the Principal or Co-Principal Investigator on over $8 million dollars in externally funded research and evaluation projects,” resulting in publications of “numerous policy briefs, technical reports, and peer-reviewed scientific papers.”  And, even with such deep involvement in research, he is an award-winning teacher.  Professor Wright also is an award winner teacher and deeply committed to involving students in research and service learning projects to make learn
