Documentary Screenings: “Las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and the Search for Identity”
Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, the film maker cannot travel to Atlanta. Both screenings have been cancelled as of 2/11/14. The organizations co-sponsoring these events will try to reschedule for a future date.
From 1976 – 1983 in Argentina, tens of thousands of people “disappeared” during the nation’s “Dirty War.” Many of the people who disappeared were pregnant women or new mothers, whose children were being given to families supportive of the government. This documentary tells the story of the grandmothers of these displaced infants, who took to the Plaza de Mayo to demand answers about what happened to their children and grandchildren.
A host of GSU sponsors* will offer two screenings of this film followed by discussions.
Cancelled. The first will take place at the Carter Center on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7pm. Former President Jimmy Carter will be a panelist. Though the event is sold out, there will be a live webcast. The Carter Center will post a link for the live webcast on their events page about 10 minutes before the event is scheduled to start. The event’s moderator is GSU’s Dr. Jennifer McCoy.
Cancelled. The second screening will take place on the GSU campus at Cinefest (University Center, Suite 240) on Friday, Feb. 14, at 11am. One of the documentary’s creators, Charlie Tuggle, will lead a discussion following the screening.
