Georgia State University Librarian Alvin Blount Named a 2026 Library Journal Mover & Shaker

ATLANTA — May 4, 2026
Alvin Blount, Learning & Engagement Librarian at Georgia State University Library, has been named a 2026 Library Journal Mover & Shaker. This recognition is one of librarianship’s most prestigious national recognitions honoring emerging leaders who are transforming libraries through innovation, creativity, and impact.
Each year, Library Journal selects a cohort of “Movers & Shakers” whose work is shaping the future of libraries and information services. Blount joins an elite group of honorees recognized over the past 20 years for advancing their institutions, the profession, and the communities they serve.
Blount was selected for his demonstrated commitment to community building. His work at GSU Library focuses on developing community-centered history initiatives and collaborative public programs that amplify underrepresented voices. He helps strengthen partnerships between the library and communities while positioning the library as a trusted space for shared storytelling, learning, and engagement.
“I am so grateful and humbled by this recognition,” said Blount. “It is wonderful that Library Journal takes the time to recognize information professionals for their work in academic, public, and special libraries, in addition to those who work in private, corporate, and governmental agencies.”
“The work of preserving, conserving, and distributing information is arguably now more important than ever before.”
“We are proud to have Alvin on our team. He defines “personable” and brings his boundless positivity into every interaction,” said Jeff Steely, dean of Georgia State University Library. “I am so pleased that he has been recognized with this honor.”
The entire 2026 Movers & Shakers class is profiled in the May issue of Library Journal, which highlights each honoree’s professional accomplishments and the libraries they represent.
