Photo of the Week: Burns Cottage, Atlanta, GA

Robert Burns Cottage, 988 Alloway Place, Atlanta, GA, 1944

The Robert Burns Cottage, located three miles southeast of Atlanta, Georgia, is a replica of the Scottish poet’s birthplace in Alloway, Ayrsshire, Scotland.  The Atlanta cottage was constructed in 1911 by the Burns Club of Atlanta, a social, literary, and cultural society commemorating the works and spirit of the 18th century poet.  The club holds a Burns Supper celebration at the cottage every January 25th, on the anniversary of The Bard’s birthday.  The cottage was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Burns Cottage is featured on the Atlanta Time Machine web site, which includes hundreds of Atlanta-area photographs from the Tracy O’Neal Photograph Collection at Georgia State University Library’s Special Collections and Archives.

This is a Great photograph. I think it looks great in black and white (color would not have done it justice). Being in the city I am surprised I have never seen this. Another thing to add to my list of things to do! Thanks for posting!

I like the photo- the black and white is appropriate. The challenge for me, (and I’m no expert), but I don’t know the context of the picture.
The one thing I like best- is the caption on the picture

My grandparents had a cottage in Cape Breton had a home that was built in 1895 that was recently taken down. So, seeing this old house, brings back memories.
    great picture!
