Department of History’s 2013 Dale Somers Memorial Lecture: Dr. Tyler Stovall, “Consumerism and Resistance: Paris 1919”
The Department of History will host its 2013 Dale Somers Memorial Lecture on Friday, April 26. Dr. Tyler Stovall, Professor of History at the University of California at Berkeley, will speak on “Consumerism and Resistance: Paris 1919.”
Dr. Stovall is the author of numerous books, including
- Paris and the Spirit of 1919: Consumer Struggles, Transnationalism, and Revolution (2012)
- France since the Second World War (2002)
- Paris Noir: African Americans in the City of Light (1996)
- The Rise of the Paris Red Belt (1990; electronic edition available here)
Stovall is also co-editor of several volumes, including:
- Black France/France Noire: The History and Politics of Blackness (co-edited with Trica Danielle Keaton and T. Denean Sharpley-Whiting, 2012; electronic edition available here)
- The Color of Liberty: Histories of Race in France (co-edited with with Sue Peabody, 2003; electronic edition available here)
Prof. Stovall’s talk will take place on Friday, April 26, from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm in the Troy Moore Library, 939 Langdale Hall (formerly General Classroom Building). Prof. Stovall will also provide a seminar to the Department of History on the same day at 10:00 am – 11:30 am, Room 2131, 34 Peachtree St. Both events are free and open to the public.
