In the Eye of the Storm: Health Disparities, Environmental Health Threats and Disasters on the Gulf Coast

The Partnership for Urban Health Research presents its Annual  Lecture on Monday, April 25th, 11 AM in Room 480 of the University Center.

Maureen Lichtveld, M.D., M.P.H., Professor and Chair of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, will be speaking on “In the Eye of the Storm: Health Disparities, Environmental Health Threats and Disasters on the Gulf Coast”.

Dr. Lichtveld serves as an expert consultant to the Institute of Medicine and played a key role during the IOM workshops convened to assess the effects of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil spill disaster on human health. She chaired the human health workgroup of the National Science and Technology Council’s Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology conference to address Oil/Dispersant impacts and mitigation on human health and socio‐economic systems focusing on exposure, community vulnerability and resilience.
