Get to Know… Jamie Davis

Get to know one of the individuals whose daily efforts shape the library experience and support our mission. From the staff who help every person who walks through our doors to team members who keep our finances running smoothly, our work is possible because of them.

Meet Jamie Davis

Budget Manager III, Atlanta Campus

What do you enjoy most about the work you do in the library, and how does it contribute to helping students, faculty, or the community?

Prior to joining the Library, I worked with the Robinson College of Business in a similar, yet very different, capacity. They feel like two totally different worlds. The Library has shined a new light on my experience within the university system, introducing me to a unit and community of people I simply wasn’t aware of before. I’ve enjoyed the shift in dynamics – structurally, culturally, operationally – and the conversations with actual real-life librarians.

As someone who works daily behind the scenes with budget and operations, it’s refreshing to walk down from the seventh-floor administrative office into the busyness of the library filled with students and know that I play a part in keeping things flowing. Seeing students use the space every day gives me perspective and a greater sense of purpose in the work I do to help keep everything running smoothly.

What’s one work-related project, service, or moment from the past year that made you feel especially proud?

Holding down millions of dollars’ worth of budget activities during the five-month vacancy of an Administrative Officer and knowing that those around me believed in me and trusted me to fill in the gaps.

What motivates you to do your best work every day?

A practical understanding and belief in the overall mission and what I want to accomplish. I’m also very self-motivated and goal-oriented. I know what I want to achieve, and I look at every situation and task as an opportunity to get to the next level.

What’s something most people don’t realize about your job or the ways your work supports the library’s mission?

That’s tough, because I think most people do realize there is no effective operation without a properly managed budget, right?

What’s a recent personal achievement you’re proud of?

Reaching 10 years as a GSU staff member, the longest I’ve been with any employer.

What’s a fun fact people might not know about you?

I’m a bit of a free spirit and very much a dog lover. I’ve never been without one. Currently, I have two 9-month-old Labrador Retrievers (siblings): Cooper, a yellow male; and Daisy, a chocolate female.
