The Capitol News Magazines
Issues from a monthly publication produced by Capitol Records have been digitized, and are now available online in the Library’s Digital Collections. The Capitol was published from 1943 to 1959, and it was renamed Capitol News in 1946, Music News in 1952, and Music Views in late 1952. The magazines contain news features and information pertaining to the artists of Capitol Records such as Nat “King” Cole, Peggy Lee, Stan Kenton, Margaret Whiting, and Les Paul. Also featured are the activities and performances of other popular music artists in and around Hollywood, CA.
These publications are part of the Johnny and Ginger Mercer papers that are housed in the Special Collections and Archives. Johnny Mercer was one of the co-founders of Capitol Records, as well as one the label’s many recording artists.
