Joe Glazer
Starring in the new film, Labor’s Troubadour, folksinger and social historian Joe Glazer has been performing songs of social commentary for more than 60 years. Among Glazer’s recordings are 30 CDs, albums and cassettes featuring music about working people, social movements, and politics in America. He has performed in 49 U.S. states and 60 foreign countries; at the historic merger of the AFL-CIO (1955); at the White House for President Carter (1980); and at countless political and labor rallies and civil and women’s rights demonstrations.
Glazer is chairman of the Labor Heritage Foundation and founder and president of Collector Records. He has authored two books: Labor’s Troubadour (University of Illinois Press, 2001), and Songs of Work and Protest (Dover Publications, DATE), considered by academics a classic in the field of Labor Studies.
Previously, Glazer was an education director in the American labor movement, a Labor Specialist for the U.S. Information Agency, and an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland. He has served as a consultant for the Smithsonian Institution, the National Building Museum and the Kennedy Center.
Glazer is the subject of public television productions, the acclaimed film, Songs and Stories of Labor, and numerous interviews broadcast on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. Glazer has appeared on the TODAY show, the Charles Kuralt CBS SUNDAY MORNING program, and Ted Kopel’s NIGHTLINE.
