- Media Politics: A Citizen’s Guide by Shanto Iyengar. This textbook makes an excellent introduction to the area of politics in the media.
- Mightier Than the Sword: How the News Media Have Shaped History by Rodger Streitmatter. Streitmatter analyzes how the media have impacted political events in American history.
- Communication in the 2008 U.S. Election: Digital Natives Elect a President by Mitchell McKinney & Mary Banwart. This book takes a look at the role that young voters took in the most recent presidential election.
- Making Sense of Media and Politics: Five Principles in Political Communication by Gadi Wolfsfeld (electronic book). Wolfsfeld explores the ties between media and politicians, and how power in one field can translate to power in the other.
- News, the Politics of Illusion by W. Lance Bennett. This book considers how politicians present themselves to the media, and in turn, how they are presented to the public.
