Love is in the Air (and the Stacks) at the Clarkston Campus Library
By Tarmaria Chenta Davis

It has been a vibrant month here at the Clarkston Campus Library. From celebrating Black excellence to sparking a little literary romance, our halls have been buzzing with energy, education, and—of course—a bit of chocolate.
Here’s a look at what’s been happening this month:
Blind Date with a Book
Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Whether you’re looking for a new book or new boo, our Blind Date with a Book display is officially in full swing and can help! We’ve curated a selection from our McNaughton collection, wrapping them in mystery so you can’t judge a book by its cover. When you check out a book from our display, you will receive a rose and a small bag of chocolate candy. Hmm, smart and sweet sound like good qualities.
A huge shoutout to Maddie Holt, Library Assistant II for assisting with the display, and a special thank you to the talented Admira Milinkovic, Library Associate II at the Decatur Campus, whose eye for design made our display truly stop traffic. A special thanks to Deon King, Sr., Circulation Manager, for keeping our schedules running smoothly.
Celebrating Black History & Wellness
Our Black History Month display is a must-see this year, featuring incredible contributions from our very own Alvin Blount, Learning and Engagement Librarian. Alvin graciously shared items from his amazing personal collection, offering a unique and profound look at history.
While you’re feeding your mind, don’t forget to take care of your heart! February is Heart Health Awareness Month. Nura Mahmoud, Library Assistant II, has put together an insightful and beautiful display dedicated to heart health. According to the American Heart Association, “Every 34 seconds, heart disease claims another life” (Source: American Heart Association). The heart month display is packed with vital information we can all learn from to stay healthy and energized.
From Cradle to College: Welcoming Indian Creek Elementary
One of the week’s biggest highlights was hosting the Cradle to College program. We welcomed five groups of about 25-30 students from Indian Creek Elementary for a day of discovery at GSU Clarkston.
The library team pulled out all the stops to show these future Panthers what we’re all about:
- The Grand Tour: A mini-walkthrough of our resources and the various materials available for checkout.
- The Black History True or False Trivia: An interactive game that kept the kids engaged and learning about history.
- The Library Mystery Game: Our Department Head, Angiah Davis, taught the students all about library policies and services through a fun guessing game that was a total hit with the kids. “One of the groups did not want to leave the library. You know that made my day,” said Davis.
Watching approximately 150 bright young minds engage with the library was a reminder of why we do what we do. It was a great time for everyone involved! Shout out to Mrs. Rose Davis, Accountant II, for taking photos.
