Library Food Drive! 11/29 – 12/10
Over 20% of the children in Georgia are living in poverty. So are more than 11% of Georgia’s seniors. Maybe you know some of these hungry people? Or maybe you want to make a difference and help to address the hunger problem in our community?
Here’s an opportunity to participate. From November 29 – December 10, the Georgia State University Library will hold a food drive to benefit the hungry. This drive is in conjunction with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, who distributed food to over 58,000 different people this week alone. The food collected from the drive will be taken to the ACFB Product Rescue Center and packed and distributed to community kitchens, churches and other partner agencies that help low-income Georgians in need.
Items can be dropped off on the first floor of Library North. In order to help create and provide healthy meals, the Atlanta Community Food Bank strives to supply a variety of well-balanced, nutritious foods. Focusing on high-protein food items, they aim to distribute foods that will enable people suffering the ill effects of hunger and poverty to feel stronger and healthier. Some of the most needed food items are as follows:
- Peanut Butter
- Canned Tuna
- Canned Beans
- Canned Soups, Stews and Pastas
- 100% Fruit Juice
- Canned Fruits and Vegetables
- Macaroni and Cheese Dinners
- Whole Grain, Low Sugar Cereals
In addition to serving our students and faculty, Georgia State University Library’s vision is to contribute to the development of the metropolitan and regional community. We hope this food drive provides for our neighbors in need. For more details on the food drive, please contact Denita Hampton.
