Georgia Archives Week: Discover Hidden Treasures

Celebrate Georgia Archives Week October 1-9, 2005. This year’s statewide celebration is themed Discover Hidden Treasures.

The University Library Special Collections Department will observe the week with the exhibit, Discover Hidden Treasures at Georgia State University, on display October 1-31, Library South 8. The exhibit will feature items from each of the department’s curatorial areas: University Archives and Rare Books, Lane Brothers and O’Neal Photographic Collections, Women’s Collection, Popular Music Collection and the Southern Labor Archives.

Archives Week events draw attention to the vital role of archives and archivists statewide and to the variety of historical records including photographs and other primary source materials available for research.

Other participating organizations include Augusta State University, the Atlanta History Center, the Georgia Historical Society and the Coca-Cola Company. Topics range from the founding of the Georgia colony to early twentieth-century music. Some area attractions are offering discounted admission for attendees.
