The North Carolina labor local known as UTWA-Local 257 represented textile workers at various Erwin Cotton Mills plants in North Carolina and Mississippi. The collection spans the early days of the union to the mid 1980’s, and consists of ledgers of meeting minutes, grievance and arbitration files, correspondence, membership rosters and artifacts. After the closing of the last Erwin Mills plant in1986, Local 257 became defunct.
Erwin Mills and the North Carolina textile industry are well documented subjects.
