Education Faculty Publish: Clinical Teacher Education
Chara Haeussler Bohan and Joyce E. Many (eds.) recently published the book, Clinical teacher education: Reflections from an urban professional development school network. The book shows how Georgia State University’s College of Education and College of Arts and Sciences partnered with local K-12 schools to create a PDS (Professional Development School) network.
GSU’s PDS network is currently operating under a $13 million Teacher Quality Partnership grant. Unlike many other PDS programs, this PDS network is quite extensive. The program began with four Atlanta area counties with student populations ranging from 50,000 to 150,000. Recently, the program expanded to include two more counties and sites in Mexico and China.
The purpose of the PDS network is to offer experience for pre-service teachers, professional development, and improved student achievement. Clinical Teacher Education offers nine chapters detailing the successes and challenges of the program. The authors include topics such as implementation, field-based perspectives, NCATE standards, inquiry, and much more.
